I am looking for a little change and it's time for this old beauty to take up residence in new home. Bought in Honolulu, HI about eleven years ago we used it to store our 37 inch flat screen tv and electronic components. With a couple added shelves she could be a crafters dream or even great clothes storage. If you are interested we are asking $600.00 and you must be able to pick it up in Charleston, SC.

It has been awhile since my last post and for a very good reason......Mr. Wonderful is back in the states!! He is not quite home yet but will be by mid December, yippee!!

I know I promised a giveaway but I must ask you all to hang in there until after the New Year for you see time spent with my handsome man is at the top of my list these days.

Yes, I know I have been mia for a couple weeks but really it is for a very good reason, I am working on my health It all started with my eating habits going all organic and healthy. Then it got a little spicy with Zumba three days a week.

Then a really great friend, I am sure some of you may know her, Brenda @ Country Romance From The Heart , introduced me to My Fitness Pal. Brenda has been a huge encouragement in my making some great healthy changes in my life......gotta love that girl!
Then there was Leslie Sansone, for the three days that I do not go to Zumba.
As you can see my concentration has been else where and blogging was not a priority at the time. Mr Wonderful is coming home soon so there are some projects that need finished before, so I am sure my regular posts will be back in full swing soon.

On another note I noticed while I was gone I was blessed with my over 200 followers, wouldn't you say that's a super great reason to have a giveaway soon, so keep an eye open there should one be coming in a couple weeks.

maybe storage for my pressed aluminum and silver trays. I fell in love with this wonderful chippy white "flower box" at Shaker Woods Festival in Columbiana, Ohio. Then I saw the price of just $20 and knew then that it just had to come home with me.
Just the right amount of rust. You might remember this license plate from my Backyard Thrifting post.

Secret to not using nails: Velcro is a girls best friend when you just want it to be temporary.Don't you just love this handle all twisted and yummy.

What once was gold and beautiful.... is now Sea Salt Blue and GORGEOUS!I have always liked these shelves that once graced the walls of my moms home, passed down to her from my great-gandmother, but never the color.

I have yet to find that special place to hang them so until then I think they look great as bookends.

Sackcloth Slipcover

Three generations old and looking and little ragged but I love the memories that come with her, a doll cradle, a wagon, you name it, this little stool as done it all. Time for a new look....

I bought this old Diamond Blast sack about a year ago at a local thrift shop in Ohio while visiting my parents.

No need for a sewing machine just buttons, needle and thread.

I have thoughts of adding a gray ruffle around the bottom, but this will do for now.

Angel Wing Wicker

This white wicker, in almost perfect condition, was a fantastic garage sale find for only $45.00. There is nothing fake about this wicker, look at the curves on this baby and the angel wing pattern is so GORGEOUS!Oh, did you think I just meant the chair was $45.00....believe it or not it was all three pieces!! Yep, you are reading that right it was ALL three pieces.....JACKPOT!!Sad to say these little beauties will be staying in Ohio at my parents. Number one I did not have the room in my SUV to take them back to Charleston, two mom has been looking for a white wicker set for awhile now....at least I can visit.

A few weeks ago I was able to spend some time with my sister in Sylvania, Ohio. We had a grand ole' time organizing her crafting studio along with some shopping at a few local stores, one being Mejier. There we found these adorable wire birds designed by Katie Brown, you have to know there was no way that this nesting girl could ever leave these little beauties behind.

Since I was little my parents house, once owned by my great-grandparents, has always been a treasure trove of all things antique or old with that oh so looked after rusty and crusty patina.

While home in Ohio, with much encouragement from my mom, I went thrifting in my dads shed and garage. Above 1938 Ohio lic. plate commemorating 150th North West Territory Anniversary.

Once stacked high along the garage wall to hold tools and other items these wonderful pie cooling boxes are headed for a new home in my studio.

Wooden handle tools, what shall I do with thee but take you home too!

Tape measure and the cutest chippy green painted hand broom are a must.

Not to forget to mention all the little wooden handles found just left without a purpose...... I'm thinking there is a bowl you can fill somewhere.

Gotta love "backyard thrifting", with all it's history of where it came from and who it belonged to.

My vivid colored feathery friends are four generations old, passed down from my great-grandmother. At one time the little chicks were separated from the flock but once again found their way back to never be separated again, aren't they the most adorable egg holders ever......OK, I admit I'm a little partial.

Gone To The Horses....

This past weekend a really good friend asked me if I would take photos of her sisters horses for her, what horse loving girl would ever turn that down, not me that is for sure!! Here are just a few of my favorites.

This is CRUISER, he stand 17 hands, what a Gray gentle giant, loves to have his picture taken too.... This is CHEROKEE, an Appaloosa full of spirit...
What a pleasure it was to watch her train both her horses.......a horse whisperer if you will. In fact I have plans to go back to the barn this weekend for a little horse 101 and more pictures of God's beautiful creatures.
As a side note; I am sure you have noticed it has been a little over a month since my last post. Since Mr. Wonderful is deployed I have decided to do a little traveling to spend time with family and friends, therefore, my posts will not be regular and they will not be about my usual decorations, crafts and cooking but more about what it going on at the time.

I love this little lamp that my sister bought me years ago, however the orange crape paper had faded and nolonger fit in my decor. Have glue gun will create.......Where orange crape paper once was cotton muslin fabric now covers.

Lil' Old Hammered Ice Bucket

Tucked away in a box this lil' old hammered ice bucket has waited for the day she would be put to use once again. Maybe not to hold ice but for another purpose altogether......

As she adorned her new starfish necklace, her purpose was revealed for it was love at first sight when Golden Pothos happened her way.......

Nature sprung a new as neighbors moved in to set up house.....
Yes, I am bored and well just a little crazy too...{{{giggle}}}.

Since Mr. Wonderful left I guess my brain has been in full nesting mod thinking of things to re-purpose to add a little spring/summer into our home.

An old ice bucket, a little jute, starfish, $4.98 Pothos from Lowes, and a saved Robins nest from my parents yard all make me smile.

Nature, what a blessed gift the Lord has given us!!

Nesting Again....

I've blogged very little over the past year, life happens and things get put on hold. Truth be told I really have not been in a very creative "mood" for past year. I am feeling that creative bug once again; be it encouragment from my dear friend Becky or just the need to get things ready for company, I am back nesting again!!

Thank you all so greatly for all your prayers and concern for my mother, Sue. We give all the Praise to God for He has worked a great miracle in her life! She had surgery last week to remove an area on her right side for what they thought might have been matastiasized thyroid cancer. When the pathologist did a study of the area removed he needed to have two others colleagues look at; they said it was a cyst, one of a kind that they had never seen before but, NOT cancer!! God is good all the time!!

The last few months I have spent most of my time in Florida, Mr. Wonderful is prepping to be deployed, so of course I want to spend as much time with him as possible, even if it's just a couple hours each night. Please keep him and his unit's safty in your prayers.

I will be back blogging in a few weeks until then have a wonderful weekend; take time to enjoy your loved ones and make some great memories!!

Being sick for a couple weeks lent to the need of doing it simple. I had ideas of a coastal themed Christmas but just did not have it in me. White, clear and glitter with touches of red make me smile.......simple is a good thing!! :o)

A Girls Best Friend

The Crock Pot can be a girls best friend, even more so when she is not feeling well. I posted this recipe a couple years ago when I first started blogging, it is my go to recipe when in time of need...simple ingredients that are most likely in any ones pantry, besides the fact that we love it.

Crock~Pot Cheesy Chicken Quiche

2 tbl. corn oil

2 pounds chicken breasts, boneless and skinless

3/4 c. flour

3/4 t. baking powder

1/2 t. salt

1 c. evaporated milk

2 eggs, beaten

1 c. shredded cheddar cheese

2 tbl. chopped onion

2 t. dried parsley flakes

Coat Crock~Pot with corn oil. Cook chicken on low 6 to 8 hours or on high 3 to 4 hours or until fork tender. Stir together flour, baking powder, salt, milk and eggs. The cheese, onion, and parsley is then folded in. Pour mixture over chicken and cook 1 hour on high. Serves approx. 6.

Note: I have used milk in place of evaporated milk at times....works well.

Crock Pot Chicken Piccata

We love Chicken Piccata....gotta love that lemony taste and capers. I looked for a recipe but could not find one that I liked so I took a little of this and that and came up with my own version, isn't that what cooking is all about. I must say it turned out really good, big hit with Mr. Wonderful, though I would have liked it a little more lemony. Below is my recipe....ENJOY!!

Crock Pot Chicken Piccata

4 skinless boneless chicken breast

olive oil

flour

ground pepper

garlic powder

zest of one lemon

2 tbs. butter

1/4 c. lemon juice
1/2 c. white wine

1/2 c. chicken stock

2 cloves chopped garlic

1/4 heaping c. capers

1 c. fresh mushrooms (or artichoke hearts, I had mushrooms that needed to be used)

1/2 c. fresh diced cherry tomatoes (or canned diced tomatoes, fresh is what I had)

1. Combine flour, ground pepper, garlic powder and zest of one lemon in shallow dish.

2. Pound out chicken about 1/4 inch thick dredge in flour mixture and brown both sides of chicken in olive oil.

3. Add chicken to crock pot, adding the remaining ingredients on top of it.

Cook on high 4-6 hours or low at 6-8 hours, or until chicken is tender depends on your crock pot.

Serve over your favorite pasta or rice.....we like to eat it just as is with a salad.

Decking the Halls....

How will you be decking your halls for Christmas this year will it be boughs of holly or maybe even sand dollars?

I have yet to decide though the ideas have been flooding my mind since the arrival of my "Coastal Living" magazine. Then we saw many beautiful sand dollars while walking the beach this past weekend, how beautiful they would be hanging on a wreath, garland or even the tree. Yes, we collected a few but they went home with a dear friend.

Note on collecting sand dollars; When dead the skin peels off and the skeletal turns white, NEVER collect the live sand dollars, it is against the law with a hefty fine if caught.

When I was younger mom would make granola often. I took her recipe and added a few things of my own with a little less honey.

Mom's Golden Granola

3 c. Quaker Oats (uncooked)

1 c. Shredded Coconut

1 c. Walnuts Nuts (coarsely chopped)

1/4 c. Honey

1/4 c. Butter (melted)

1 1/2 tsp. Cinnamon

1/2 tsp. Salt

2/3 c. Raisins

Combine all except raisins in ungreased 13 x 9 pan, mix well. Bake 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown, stirring occasionally. When cooled add raisins.

My Recipe

6 c. Organic Old Fashion Oats (uncooked)

1/4 c. Good Local Honey

1/2 c. Butter melted

1 c. Pecans (coarsely chopped)

1 c. Walnuts (coarsely chopped)

1/2 c. Pumpkin Seeds

1 1/2 c. Organic Coconut

3 tsp. Cinnamon

1 tsp. Sea Salt

1 c. Dried Mixed Berries

Combine all except dried mixed berries on a ungreased 1/2 sheet cake pan, mix well. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes of till golden brown, stirring occasionally. When cooled add dried berries.

This recipe really has endless possibilities, add whatever you want. Great over top Greek yogurt with a drizzle of local honey and fresh organic raspberries. Yum!! :o)

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Scones

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Scones

(I used organic ingredients)

*Combine following:
2 cups all-purpose flour
7 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

*Cut in following until small crumble

6 tablespoons cold butter

*Mix following into dry ingredients:

1/2 pkg organic semi-sweet chocolate chips

*In separate bowl whisk together following, once whisked fold into dry ingredients until dough forms, it will be a little sticky
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
3 tablespoons half-and-half
1 large egg

*On lightly floured surface (note: add a little flour to your hands too) pat out dough into a 1 inch rectangle. Cut width into three sections, then those sections into triangles. (note: this makes 6 huge scones so you may want to cut the triangles again to make 12 smaller scones)

*Bake on a lightly greased baking sheet for 15 minutes at 425 degrees until very light brown. Cool on cooling rack.

*Once cooled, if you wish, drizzle with sugar glaze.

1 cup powder sugar

2 tablespoons milk

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Moist LEMON goodness. I cut the recipe in half, added a 1/4 tsp more of baking soda and used all organic ingredients.

Back In The Nest...

This year has been a whirl wind for me, we moved to Charleston, Mom was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer and Earl is preparing to leave after the holidays for the Middle East for about a year. I am back in the Nest and boy does it need BIG help.....

When we moved in I just hung things here and there but really never did really like the entry. It looked terrible, cords hanging, and a grouping that just did not work.

BIG changes.....I grouped together several black framed items, 1960's Clemson Tigers football picture, old music, and very old cross stitch pictures.

The tray of collections that was on the table prior was cute but just was not enough height next to the tall lamp. I added a crow hanging on the lamp to give it a little more touch of fall.

I am not one to decorate for every holiday but we have really good friends coming down from Ohio to stay with us over Thanksgiving so I decided that a little touch of fall was needed this year. Nothing like a little company to get you decorating! ;o)

How blessed I am to have you all as my friends! Thank you all for the support and prayers over the last few months. I have returned home, mom is doing well, we are waiting to see what news the scan will bring in January, please pray with us that all will be clear and cancer free.

Mr. Wonderful is flying out tomorrow for several days which I am sure will give me opportunity to get back in the swing of things and do some creating, after all Thanksgiving is around the corner and company is coming.

UPDATE: Mom had a follow-up scan on Friday, Sept 17th. It did not bare the good news that we all hoped and prayed for. The cancer has metastasized to area between her 11th and 12th rib. Since it does take the radiation some time to work it will be three months before they do another scan. Please continue to keep her in your prayers. God is good all the time!!!

If you will please keep my wonderful mother in your daily prayers, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, she had surgery to remove her thyroid and will be having radiation in September. Using a leg from an old pair of jeans I hand stitched the ends together to make this adorable pillow.Then adorned it with hand sewn ruffles made from old sheets and a piece of handmade lace.

My love for little porcelain puppies all started with these two little white and black ones, they belonged to my great-grandma. (Yes, most of what I have has been passed down from family, one day I just might surprise you with something I found.) Then all these followed.....the little tiny one reminds of the RCA dog, do you remember him?

I think I gained my love for linens from my Mom, growing up she had a very large closet of linens that when you opened the door a very fresh crisp smell would waft out. Mmmmm....how wonderful it was.

Moving into our new apartment I decided why leave my linens all tucked away where I cannot see them except when I use them. Then I was thinking hummm we never really close the doors on the tv armoire what a great place to display a few of my linens.
The doors folds out of the way to the side making it perfect to display a few of my favorite linens.
I chose to use a couple pieces with blue, if you noticed the armoire has some blue details. Love the blue on this piece makes me think Dutch.
I love, love, love this table cloth with little blue birds.

This beautiful desk was in my great-grandparents house, before that we believe it was in my great-great grandparents. The story was that my great-great uncle brought a few pieces of family furniture from New Castle, Penn. to my great-grandparents in Warren, Ohio, this being one of them.

It may seem silly to you but I have always loved the little letter cubbies behind the door on the right...I still do!

Gorgeous carvings grace the arch.

Still having its original label on the back, Made by Mechanics Furniture Company, Rockford, Ill.

Mechanics Furniture Company was established in 1890, being in business still in the 1920's.

Great-grandma's French Theodore Haviland China. The Haviland company history can be found at Haviland Collectors web site. This set was made in the early 1900's, what a treasure!

Tiny little pink blossoms adorn this beautiful fine French china, did I mention that it is FRENCH!

The little dessert plates have a different pattern then the rest of it and I believe they are much older then the other pieces but they blend in very well with the other pieces.

Oh what yumminess....

Don't you just love the gold ribbon handles not to mention the adorable scalloped footing.

A perfectly chipped white bird watches over creamy white buttons and flower frogs as they gather in a scalloped edge serving bowl. Presented next to an old health knowledge book, great grandma's Bible, little tiny collected birds nest, and a frog holding one of my favorite pictures of men hunting with there dogs. All this sits atop the pass through from the kitchen to the dining area.

Dec-o-rate: to furnish something ornamental , or how about an entry. Welcome come on in.....this is what greets you in the entry of our apartment, well, at least for now until I get the itch to change it. :o) Pay no attention to the light cord.....can you believe I missed that , yikes! I have a thing about cords hiding but some how missed this one.The side table has been in the family for four generations, bunny picture from a very old magazine, frame from Kohls....on sale of course, E a gift from a dear friend, lamp $30 TJmaxx, other items given to me by my mom, collected by the sea, or bought while thrifting.

I am sure by now you have discovered that I have a very eclectic taste, leaning more towards the old and worn with a BIG touch of nature strewn about.

I really could put shells in every room......LOVE them!!

When we moved to Charleston my Mom sent a few things along with me, this beautiful buffet being one of them. Don't you think every beautiful buffet needs great runner. So what is a girl to do without a sewing machine but to get out the HeatnBond. Leaving the edges raw to an old white sheet I attached blue ruffles to both ends from an old pillow case. Gotta love that HeatnBond!! Be sure to click on the pictures so you can get a better look.

Getting those pictures just were you want them with out putting twenty holes in the wall doing it, believe me I have put my fair share of holes in the wall trying to get it just right. I traced the frames onto postal paper, (ran out of postal paper, wrapping paper just as good). Lining them up with the back of the frame I made a small hole where I wanted the nail to go. Arranged them on the wall the way I wanted them, nailed, remove paper and hung picturesThis is how it looks. I so love shells, and since we are living near the ocean why not!! I will tell you in a later post where the pictures came from.

Whirl Wind Week

What a week!!

We had a really great time in Sugarcreek, Ohio. We went to a couple antique malls and a thrift shop where I did find a few goodies for crafting and decor. I tried to upload pictures but blogger is having a little problem...will try again later.

Leaving Charleston at 8am getting home at midnight....what a drive! I would not recommend driving the PA turnpike at night so much road work going on....so tight!! We had three hours left before we would arrive home and our check engine light came on...Yikes!! Praise the Lord, he got us home safe and sound.

What a whirl wind of a week!! Mr. Wonderful got a call on Tuesday for an interview in Charleston, SC. We left after our trip to Sugarcreek, Ohio on Thursday and his interview was today and he GOT the job!!! Can you believe it, we will be moving to Charleston, South Carolina!!! I will fill you in more on our trip to Amish country and South Carolina once we are back in Ohio.....Until then have a very wonderful weekend!!

To Paint or Not...

For years, over 40, this chifforobe lurked in the corner of my parents basement holding old linens, dresses and tools. When I was younger I had dreams of using it in my room, mom would just chuckle. Well, about three years ago my dream came true, up from its dark damp basement it did come, all covered in layers of cream and brown paint embellished with wood grain contact paper of all things. If you look at the right side of the picture at the very bottom you will notice that I had to do a little repair with some wood putty, which has yet to be sanded....if you click the picture you will get a better look. The drawer pulls had been moved from their original place on the sides to the middle. While I search for that "just right handle" tied ribbon acts as my pull. I may fill in the "newer" holes and move them back to their original spot......what do you think?

Here is the shocker, after all the cleaning and stripping off old paint and contact paper I am thinking of painting this little beauty either a creamy white or a very light gray. What do you think? I know you girls are full of ideas so please do tell!

A day spent in the studio with a great friend meant girlie talk, laughter and lots of creativity. This is one of the three hangings I finished, I will share the other two in a later post.

A piece of old vintage cotton sheet and linen fabric lent way to ruffles adorned with lace, buttons and vintage silk binding.

The image used can be found at Vintage Printable....oh, the wonderful images one can find there. Though it may seem an odd image to some, I fell in love with the shapes and colors.
All topped off with a chipboard flourish of music all a glitter and a crisp creamy grosgrain bow.

Three Thoroughbreds....

Etched across the bottom of this adorable picture is the phrase, "Three Thoroughbreds. Grandma is what we called her, others knew her as Helen, her full name Helen Delilah Hurst...but yet so much more. She was my great-grandfather Norman Davies second wife after the passing of my great-grandmother Isabel. After the passing of my grandpa Norman, Helen remarried Frank Irwin, my grandfathers best friend...you see his wife Henrietta had passed away not to long before Norman. Though Helen and Frank were not of blood relation to us they remained part of our family and we knew them no other way then grandma and grandpa. Thoroughbreds Indeed!!! Great Grandma lived with us for some time after the passing of my Great Grandfather. What a pleasure it was to be able to spend the time I did with her playing cards, crocheting, and looking at her scrapbook talking about times gone by. What a great surprise when she gifted me her scrapbook.....I am sure she knew how much I loved looking at it. As the years have gone by the book fell apart and the pages are deteriorating. In order to preserve the wonderful old ephemera; photos, certificates, ribbons so on, I am scanning the pages then removing the items from the pages. Digging For Treasure....

At the edge of the old cow pasture (mind you the cows are long gone) just behind my parents property lies the woods. Oh, what fun we had, hiking and riding our bikes on the trails that seemed as if they had been there hundreds of years before us. In what we deemed as the middle of the woods lied a dump that had been left by farmers long ago. You got it, after all we were kids, we went digging for treasure and treasure we did find, old medicine bottles. We gathered all that were not broken and took them home to Mom, who of course loved anything "old." The bottles that once graced the shelves at my Mom's house now grace my shelves as well as my sister's, and what a story they do tell!
